Judith of Bethulia
Set Design
In my design for Judith of Bethulia, I wanted to showcase not just the world of the play, but also the space in which the production was taking place. Judith of Bethulia projects an embellishment of the Hollywood film's Biblical epic from 1914 which is based on the story from the Book of Judith. I wanted my design to merge the world of the intimate cabaret performance space with the exaggerated biblical nature of the setting. I wanted to create the feeling of a burlesque nightclub but with the look of a Bedouin Middle Eastern tent completely enveloping and bringing the audience into the world of the characters. The set becomes an Arabian nightclub and spoofs the exaggerated high drama of the Hollywood film.
