Spring Opera-The Marriage of Figaro
Musical Direction by David Holley Stage Direction by David Holley
The concept for the show was an abstracted version of the show Downton Abbey. For the lighting I wanted to show that the events take place over the course of a day. Act 1 which is Figaro and Susanna's room, it is morning and I wanted to give the illusion of a sun rising with the 3 walls that were used as cycs that were backlit. Act 2 is the countess's dressing room which takes place during the afternoon. I wanted the walls to capture a look of a noon sun with the side walls to match what became the countess's costume color palette. Act 3 took place at dusk, which we loved the idea of having some of the windows on the walls light up and the interior to have a look of light sources. Act 4 is in the courtyard at night among the trees which alowed for the use of many leaf breakups and a sense of the moonlight being the strongest source outside for light.
