Lighting Design
Top Girls shows the empowerment that women faced during the 1980s and how they started to create a place for themselves in a mans world. The play itself skips around starting with a dreamlike scenario that the main character Marlene has dinner with all these powerful women throughout the centuries. It continues to skip between Marlene's office and her sisters house over the period of a year. With my design I wanted to encompass the setting of the 1980s with the many scenarios and settings that Marlene faces. The color I chose for this design allows for a soft feminine feel with neutral pinks and lavenders as well as giving way to the harsh reality that Marlene has worked her way into.
